I designed, analysed, and presented the BankBazaar Aspiration Index (BAI) right from its first edition in 2018. Adapted from the Self-Determination Theory developed by Kasser & Ryan, BAI aims to understand the aspirations of the young Indian salaried middle class from a personal finance perspective. Now running into the seventh edition, the BAI has attempted to explain the impact of generational differences, COVID, and inflation on aspirations, and is one of the most comprehensive studies of middle class aspirations and their financial situation.
Year after year, we have seen the inferences of the BankBazaar Aspiration Index reflected in the Indian economy and market. The study won the PR Awards Asia 2019. The findings have been covered every year in financial and regional media. It has also been quoted in multiple analyst reports and in articles by senior BFSI leaders.
